In the Renaissance, music was generally written as Choral music, with instruments playing the various parts of soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. Therefore, instruments were voiced “in consort” like a choir. Our recorder Consort is hand-made by Peter Van der Poel of The Netherlands and consists of a soprano, an alto, two tenors, a bass, and a great bass. The instruments are tuned using mean tone and pitched at A=466. Renaissance recorders have a wide bore and a deep rich sound that is glorious heard in consort.
The Baroque
The Baroque era highlights virtuosic solo performance with the support of “basso continuo.” Handel, Vivaldi, Telemann, and Bach were just a few of the composers whose music Pastime brings to life.
